Under The Radar start 2017 in sensational style

Published: 05/02/2017

Under The Radar, who made such a big impression in their first month with Toptipsters, continued in the same vein in January amassing an enormous yield of 293.88 points. This return, the third highest in Toptipsters’ history guaranteed top spot in the January table and means that, already, rivals are playing a game of catch-up. Second, with a commendable return of 43.85 points came the defending champions, Sprint Specialiser, while Blue Ribbon Racing Services and Colwyn Racing claimed the next two positions in the opening round of the 2017 marathon. There were also January profits for the ever-reliable Peter James and Early Price Profits, the 2016 runner-up.

The “way overpriced” 33/1 advice Kayflin, who triumphed at Plumpton on 2 January was a statement of intent by Under The Radar. Four days later, Some Reign (“could give a good account at a huge price”) scored at Wetherby, a 50/1, yes 50/1, advice, while the month ended on a high with another 33/1 strike, Archimedes (“envisage a big race”), at Southwell, on 26 January. There were also winners at 16/1, two at 14s and four at 10s, plus any number of juicy each-way returns. Overall, January’s 117 selections produced a return on investment (ROI) of more than 106%.

Sprint Specialiser began the defence of their crown, in steady fashion, posting a near 44-point profit. Though overshadowed by Under The Radar’s return, this represented an excellent month’s work. A 34% ROI and a 25/1 winner - Doc Sportello at Newcastle on 12th – kept subscribers happy, and a good start to February suggests that the 2016 champs will not relinquish their title without a fight.

Another service that finished 2016 in good shape were Blue Ribbon, and they followed last month’s 56.80-point yield with a 27.70-point January gain. This made it four profitable months out of six, and once again, they are operating to a profit in February, with several nicely priced winners already in the bag.

Colwyn Racing, who are back with Toptipsters after a short break, started 2017 with a 66% January strike-rate for win-only bets, which converted into a 16.67-point yield and third place in the January listing.

Peter James is not given to hyperbole, but his claim to be one of the most consistent tipsters in the industry needs to be writ large. January produced a 15th month of profit from a possible 20, and a 14.59-point profit. The highlight was the success of 14/1 advice William H Bonney at Cheltenham on 28 January, one of 15 wins from 63 bets. A further 24 selections finished in second or third positions, suggesting that, with a modicum of luck, a good month could well have been transformed into a spectacular one.

Since joined Toptipsters last June, Early Price Profits have finished in the black six times out of eight. January’s profit was slight, but a profit nonetheless. For much of the month, the balance sheet was in the red, but winners at 13/2 and two at 7/1 on the penultimate day of the month, tipped it into credit. This good form has continued into the new month with winners at 6/1, 7/1 and 12/1 on the first two days of February action.
