Stunning effort sends AB Tips to the top

Published: 03/05/2018

AB Tips topped the April Toptipsters listings with a stunning 233.68-point gain. Well clear of the pack for much of the month, AB Tips finished ahead of John’s Value Selections, who made a spirited late challenge – earning more than 200 points in the last three days of the month – to finish with an April yield of 195.25 points.

Sprint Specialiser, with their best 2018 posting, finished third on 106.71 points ahead of Sandbets (81.85 points), TradeThePrices (58.85 points), Tony Mc Racing (42.60 points), Early Price Profits (33.47 points) and Tip Top Tips (28.37 points).

AB Tips started the year in good shape, topping the January table with 130 points. After a poor February, March brought more profit and with April’s bonanza, AB Tips have unseated Early Price Profits at the head of the 2018 Toptipster table. With a third of the year behind us, AB Tips have 352.63 points with Early Price Profits on 324.03 points.

A successful 33/1 advice, Andalusite (Chelmsford City, 6 April), and the victories of 20/1 Examiner (Newmarket, 17 April) and 18/1 Himself (Kempton, 18 April) were the three most striking April winners, but there were plenty of other juicy morsels along the way including two 14/1 successes and four at 12s.

Whereas AB Tips made their profits in a steady arc, second placed John’s Value Selections left it late. At one point on the afternoon of 27 April, they were showing a 40-point loss, but fortunes were about to change. Indian Tygress’s win at Doncaster (15/2) was the catalyst. On 28 April, Fondest (20/1, Haydock), Mirsaale (16/1, Ripon) and Stage Name (12/1, Ripon) all prevailed on a magical day which earned an astonishing 143-point profit. A 7/1 Wetherby winner the next afternoon sustained the run and the month ended with 16/1 Chivers (Salisbury, 30 April) together with a further two winners (5/1 and 9/2) pushing the month’s profits skyward.

The 2016 Toptipster champs, Sprint Specialiser, have made a quiet start to 2018, but finally found their true form in April. A return of 106.71 points was their best monthly figure since July of 2016. It was earned with a steady sequence of well-priced winners spearheaded by Mr Orange (18/1, Thirsk, 21 April) and Aeolus (Newmarket, 18 April). There were also two winners at 7s and one at 9s and a sequence of 7 winning selections out of 8 between 7 and 11 April.

There is no more consistent service operating at the moment than Sandbets, whose April profit of 81.85 points follows 80-point postings in February and again in March. Perhaps the most impressive feature of Sandbets performance is that despite maintaining a good strike-rate, there is still room for some extravagant plunges such as Mequite (25/1, Lingfield, 14 April), Dream Ally (16/1, Southwell, 4 April) and Zarjaz (16/1, Southwell, 30 April). Southwell seems to be Sandbets current favourite course; a 10-winner haul at the Nottinghamshire track in March (28% strike-rate) was followed by nine April wins (41% strike-rate).

TradeThePrices made an auspicious start to life with Toptipsters, posting an April yield of 58.85 points – one of the best debut-month returns ever recorded. A 25% strike-rate and an 81.74% return on investment were achieved, Thanks to two 10/1 winners, Paddy A (Kempton, 11 April) and Ocean Cove (Ayr, 20 April) as well as two at 8/1 and one at 11/2.

Tony Mc Racing celebrated a year with Toptipsters with a personal best 42.60-point posting. Again, it was a case of leaving it late as the profit was only secured thanks to two winning 16/1 advices on the last day of April: Black Isle Boy (Thirsk) and the Chivers (Salisbury).

Although Early Price Profits relinquished their lead at the head of the table, there was no sense of despondency as an eighth successive month of profit was recorded. Winners included 20/1 Henri Parry Morgan (Ffos Las, 1 April) and two 16/1 chances, Airshow (Kempton, 13 April) and Tikkinthebox (Taunton, 25 April).

Riviere Argentee, a winning 20/1 advice at Catterick (25 April), helped Tip Top Tips post a personal best 28.37-point April profit, while 18/1 advice Always Tipsy (Kelso, 16 April) ensured that The Info Line notched an April profit.
