Sprint Specialiser crowned champ in memorable year

Published: 04/01/2017

In what was an outstanding year, Sprint Specialist finished 2016 with an annual profit of 455.80 points, and first place in the Toptipster table. Early Price Profits claimed second position with 285.84, narrowly holding last year’s champions, EachWay Accas, who finished the year with a 285.62-point yield.

High scoring was a feature of the year with no fewer than 21 examples of a service posting a 50-point-or-more yield during a calendar month. This included an extraordinary October when the Toptipsters team took the bookies to the cleaners. Leisure Sports Services earned a 348.35-point profit, EachWay Accas made 289.25 points while third placed Early Price Profits plundered their way to a 144.97-point yield.

The emergence of Sprint Specialiser at the turn of the year added a competitive edge of the Toptipster challenge after last year’s domination by EachWay Accas. The new kids made an instant impact, finishing top of the table in January and again in February. EachWay Accas responded positively and by the end of April they held a ten-point lead in the table. But with successes in May, July and August, Sprint Specialiser built up a commanding lead which they maintained through to the finishing line.

Early Price Profits made their Toptipsters debut in June and after a wobbly start, they quickly found their feet, posting four huge monthly profits. As well as October’s big profit, they accrued a 95.96 gain in July and a 97.95-point profit in September. They also ended the year in style, racking up a 130.57-point December yield, finishing clear of the field for the third time in the space of four months.

EachWay Accas’ modus operandi is such that occasional big losses are inevitable, but the overall trend is upward and during the course of the two years Toptipsters has been in operation, this service has accrued more than 1,000 points, the first service to reach this landmark. Apart from the October windfall, other highlights of 2016 included table topping months in April (91.20 points) and June (99.94 points) and two other 50-point-plus monthly gains.

An exciting new service, Under The Radar, caused a stir when posting a record first month gain of 127.40-point profit during December. That haul was headed by 20/1 Barton Gift (Bangor, 22 December) and also included four 14/1 winners, one at 11s and another at 10/1.

Apart from EachWay Accas, no service has been with Toptipsters longer than Peter James. James ended 2016 spectacularly with a 51.51 December yield, a personal best for a tipping service renowned for a high level of consistency. In the 18-months James has been a part of Toptipsters, he has posted profits in all but 4 months, earning a high 78% strike-rate for monthly profits.

Leisure Sports Services started with three monthly profits and then hit the high notes in October, claiming the second highest monthly return in Toptipsters’ history. Blue Ribbon showed promise, particularly with a 56.80 December posting. SG Racing were similarly impressive with yields of 53.97 and 36.58 during their first two month of Toptipster operations.

With well-established services and several exciting newcomers, 2017 promises to be another year of hot Toptipster action. And this can only be good news for punters seeking reliable and competitively priced subscription services.
